Shelter; home; retreat; sanctuary; bach … I am dwelling on dwellings.

Hermit crabs carry their home on their back, a safe place to retreat to. The shelter we New Zealanders call home comes in many and varied forms and we all carry with us a sense of home. 

This series is inspired by Japanese designer Aki Inomata's 2014 very beautiful 3-d printed wee glass architectural masterpiece homes for hermit crabs.

Mostly whimsical, wondering, this work has been reviewed as “both provocative and beautiful… both subtly ideological and aesthetic.”
